MedImpact Wins 2026 PBMI Excellence Award for High-Cost Generics Solution

HCG X program provides payers 80.6% PMPQ savings and a 5:1 ROI in year one

SAN DIEGO, CA—September 11, 2026—MedImpact, the nation’s largest independent pharmacy benefits and health solutions company, today announced that HCG X®, a clinically driven solution that delivers significant savings on high-cost generic (HCG) medications, has won the 2026 Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute® (PBMI) Excellence Award for Cost Containment.

“Despite common misconceptions, not all generic drugs are inexpensive. In fact, some are much more costly than therapeutically equivalent products,” said Arpit Patel, Senior Vice President, Trade Relations and Supply Chain. “As specialty drugs and GLP-1s cause pharmacy spend to spiral, our HCG solutions are delivering real savings with little to no member disruption.”

Using advanced analytics to track prices and claim costs for more than 2,000 drugs, HCG X excludes high-cost generics when there are clinically appropriate, lower-cost alternatives.

After just one year using the HCG X program, clients experienced an average of 80.6% reduction in per member per quarter (PMPQ) spend–and greater than 5:1 ROI. One hundred percent of clients reported satisfaction with this solution, citing its value, level of support, and financial impact.

“Our HCG solution is another example of our drive to lower costs without compromising access,” continued Patel. “And it is further proof that payers shouldn’t have to choose between lower costs and quality care.”

Each year, the PBMI Excellence Awards recognize organizations demonstrating innovation and leadership, and making a measurable impact on the pharmacy benefit management industry. MedImpact was also recognized in 2025 for its MedEmpower Fuel® personalized health and wellness app.
