Be Prepared for Natural Disasters

Hurricanes, floods, wildfires and other natural disasters can have a devastating impact on you and your loved ones.

Prepare for an Emergency

If you live in an area that frequently experiences disasters, we encourage you to take the following steps to prepare:
  1. Agree on a Plan
Create and discuss an evacuation plan with your family before a disaster happens.
  2. Prepare an Emergency Kit
Prepare an emergency kit that you can easily take with you in case you need to leave your home on short notice.
The Department of Homeland Security website has tips on building an emergency kit.
  3. Create a List of Your Medications
Include a detailed list of your medications in your emergency kit. You may run out of your medication if your area has suffered major damage. With a medication list that includes details like your doctors' names and contact information, you’ll be able to go to a new pharmacy and get emergency refills.

Make a list of your medications that you can print or save to your phone so that you can show it to the pharmacist to get refills in case of an emergency. We encourage you to make a new list whenever your medications change. We suggest that you put a copy in a waterproof bag and store one at home, one in your car and one at work.
